Leopoldo Mendoza Andrade's numerous creations graced the front of Mexican movie theaters over the span of five decades (from the 1940s through the early 1990s). Mendoza is likely the most prolific artist in the history of the Mexican film industry, with upwards of 300 posters to his credit. Mendoza learned his trade as an apprentice for another renowned movie poster artist, Antonio Vargas Ocampo. The artist's career got a boost when he and his brother, Jose, were hired by Producciones Raul de Anda. Over the course of his career, Mendoza worked for a series of important production companies, including; Films Victoria, Filmex, Mier y Brooks and Sotomayor. Mendoza was one of the few prominent artists to work in the horror film genre, and his work on titles like 'Invasion de los Vampiros,' 'Santo vs. las Mujeres Vampiro' and the 'Nostradamus' series was outstanding. However, he was not limited to horror films, as he worked in all film genres, including; musicals, comedies, westerns and film noir. Most Mendoza posters were signed by the artist.

Please Note: Mexican onesheet movie posters are usually printed on cheap, fragile paper, which has tended to become brittle with age. Because of this, even posters which have never been used, often have small nicks and tears around the borders and some splitting / separation at the fold lines. In order to protect the posters from additional damage (which in extreme cases, can sometimes occur by simply unfolding the poster), we sometimes use acid-free, archival tape on the back of the posters (usually on the fold lines) to reinforce them. This thin tissue-based tape is especially made for this purpose -- and it will not yellow, dry out, or harm the paper. The tape is invisible on the front.
